The Rules of Online Poker

When we talk about poker, everyone immediately thinks of Texas Hold'em, perhaps because it's the most popular and most played type of poker. We also come across different variations of this card game in online casinos. Not everywhere, but in an average casino, we can try Omaha poker, or Stud, Razz, and more.

Texas Hold'em is the best version for novice poker players because it is comparatively easy to master the rules.

How to Play Texas Hold'em

Unlike traditional five-card poker, players only have two cards. The dealer will place five cards in the center of the poker table during the game. Combinations must be made up of the two own cards and the ones on the table - also called talons. It is not necessary to use two of our cards if it is more favorable for us. We don't need to use either of them. Like at other poker games, there is a mandatory bet here, too. Before the start of each round, the first two players place their bets. These are called the Small Blind and the Big Blind. Then the deal follows, and the player to the left of the big blind opens the round.

In the case of Texas Hold'em poker, players can do the following (this applies to the player who starts the bet and the players who follow):

  • Throwing. When a player folds their cards, he can no longer participate in further rounds.
  • Keeping a bet (this is practically equal to the sum of the big blind).
  • Raise.

In both Texas Hold'em and Omaha poker, the big blind has the option to raise when it's their turn, and the round continues until the players following him throw or call. The previous round is called the "Pre-flop" and followed by the "Flop". The dealer then places 3 cards in the center of the table that everyone can see and use to assemble their "poker hand". A bid follows. The bet is started by the "small blind", and you can do three things: pass, open (place the starting bet), or roll. Once someone places a bet, additional players can hold it, raise it, or throw. The round goes on as long as everyone holds a bet or throwing cards.

It is followed by the "Turn" when the dealer puts the fourth card face up. The first player still in the game starts bidding. In fixed limit Hold'em, the stake in the first two betting rounds is the same amount as the big blind, and in the next two rounds, it is double of it. In the case of No-Limit Hold'em, as the name suggests, there is no upper limit, so this is one of the most special Hold'em variations among poker players.

The next step in the poker game is the "River", where the dealer places the fifth card on the poker table. Bidding follows, similar to the previous bidding, after which the players show their cards.

The winner of a poker game is the one who can put together the best combination of the seven cards available. In the event of a tie, the prize will be distributed among the winners. In Texas Hold'em, showing one's cards begins with the last player to raise. Failing that, it is the one who opened the last round of betting. If someone's hand is worse than the player presenting in front of them, they are not required to show their cards.

Regarding the betting limit, the four variations of Texas Hold'em poker are as follows:

  • No-Limit Texas Hold'em
  • Limit Texas Hold'em
  • Pot Limit Texas Hold'em
  • Mixed Texas Holdem

Texas Hold'em played with a 52-card deck of French cards, meaning the Jokers are not in the deck.

Our favorite sites for Texas Hold'em are Drake Casino and Bspin.io. The latter one is a Bitcoin-only casino. Don't worry if you haven't got any Bitcoins, as the casino will exchange any currency for Bitcoins for you. Both of these casinos offer a 100% Welcome Bonus. A big choice of card games is available on these sites. These casinos are trustworthy, have valid licenses to operate, and if you need some assistance during your game, you can contact customer support 24/7.

You can find plenty of other casino websites on our Slots page. Most of them have a Table Games selection, where you can choose from different card games. The casinos shown on that page are all available in your country to play.
